RE: Weekly Update
2010 certainly arrived with a great chilling bang! According to the news, not since 1924 has Gainesville experienced such low temperatures. Layers upon layers of clothes were used to help avoid the reality of the thermometer. Hot drinks, hot food, hot soup was each consumed to warm the inner self in an attempt to warm the outer self. Maybe, just maybe what we were feeling was not really happening.
How easy it is to ignore what we don’t like! How creative we can be to find ways to make things the way we want them to be! How hard it is, at times, to let our days and weeks and years just simply be what they are! And yet, over and over, in the Gospels Jesus shows us how to be accepting of what is. He tells us that when we become overwhelmed to bring everything to Him. He promises to be with us and to refresh us. How blessed we are in Jesus!
So many times, during the school day, this comes easily to mind as I roam from classroom to classroom. The smiles, the casual comments, the greetings, the eagerness to share – true signs of Jesus’ love being passed on from one to the other. Whether four years old or an adult, it is not hard to find the Gospel being lived out. It is not difficult to recognize the ease in which burdens are lifted, fears are calmed and a lilt in the step is renewed.
We can try to ignore what is reality, but truth can be shared with those whose lives we touch and the helping hand can be grasped – and all will be well. The love of the God is in our midst in the persons who surround us. We can pretend if we like or we can be carried by Jesus’ promises to days of peace and happiness.
Happy New Year! May your 2010 be filled with the blessings which come from touching the lives of others!
