RE:       Weekly Update

As the school year moves forward we continue to develop our theme of “We Believe”.  This month we have been gathering all the information we can on the seven Sacraments of our Catholic Church, being cognizant of presenting information which is appropriate for the varying age levels.  Everyone has recalled again the great event of their Baptism.  Everyone has experienced at some time a Baptism celebrated at Queen of Peace and can recall quickly the words and actions.  Our PreK students can repeat the words of the priest as he raises the newly baptized to God and says, “This child is yours now, take good care of him/her.”.  Everyone knows how precious we are in God’s eyes and how pleased God is with us each day.

This past Thursday, the elementary students had the opportunity to witness the Sacrament of the Sick as it was received by Hortensia Lamadrid.  For many, this was a new experience for them.  They had heard about the sacrament, they knew its purpose, they knew what was to happen.  But, for the first time, they responded to the prayers, they raised their hands in prayer and watched as the oil was placed on the forehead and the hands.  It was a powerful moment for all present!

We have all heard about taking advantage of the teachable moments.  We have all grabbed on to the opportunities which will help us to help those in our care.  We all truly believe that God places events and people in our lives to draw us closer and deeper in our relationship with the Almighty.  We are, without doubt, God’s own; we are God’s beloved and God is pleased with us – well, most of the time.

Let’s all look for those times in our lives to draw closer to God.  Let’s look for the times when we can teach our children, when we can show our children, when we can model for our children.  God is always there for us.  Let’s reach out and grab hold of what God freely gives.
