RE:       Weekly Update

The routines of every day can be boring – but never at Queen of Peace Academy!  Each day at 7:45 AM, cars begin to line up to drop off the students for a new day.  Our patrols open doors, they smile (mostly), offer a morning greeting, assist students as they jump out, calling behind them, “Bye, Mom!”  – and the day begins. 

One by one, the students pass us adults.  Sometimes we are asked to compliment a new haircut, listen to the latest dog trick, view a poster due that day or respond to a request to help with a heavy load.  One by one our eyes meet in trust and anticipation of what the day may bring.  Sometimes, it’s a reassurance that the previous night’s study will bring good test results or perhaps, it’s an excitement about the winning game.  One by one, the students model the expectations of a true Faith Community where challenge and affirmation are a lived reality.  One by one they look into our faces and call us to be who we say we are.

Yes, we can move along routinely with the same procedure day in and day out.  But, truly there is no day which matches a day gone before.  Each of our days calls us to be filled with new life and hope and love and affirmation.  Each day asks us to be good listeners, to look into the eyes of those around us, to open our ears to the enthusiasm or to the sadness or the worry.  These are the blessings and the challenges of community.  These are the blessings and the challenges of Queen of Peace Catholic Community.  We are blessed!

Reminders and Other Things

• Additional volunteers are still needed for the lunchroom, especially on Wednesdays and Fridays.  Please contact Barbara Henault to join this wonderful group of volunteers!
• We have some openings in PreK, Grades 2 and 4 for next year.  Please keep this in your thoughts and prayers and do encourage any interested parents to call Darlene.
• The Reconciliation dates for students in Grades 3 – 8 have been changed.  Students in Grades 3, 4, 5 will receive Reconciliation on March 10th; Grades 6, 7, 8 on March 17th.  Please assist in preparing your child(ren) for this sacrament.
• Friday, March 5th is a Diocesan Teacher Day to be held in Jacksonville.  There will be no school on that day or on Monday, March 8th.
• Once again, we have had some concerns expressed regarding dogs being brought to school.  Please be mindful of those who may have allergies or be frightened and keep your dog in your car.
• Report cards will be coming home on Friday, March 12th.

Fees and Tuition – 2010 - 2011

            Registration       $225 per student

            Book Fees        $425 per student

            Tuition               $3,900 – Catholics

                                    $5,700 – all others

From Coach Davis:

 We are in need of a Golf Coach for the Academy students who are interested in this sport.  Please contact Ron Davis to volunteer.  He may be reached at 359-8179 (cell); 332-8808 (Academy); 472-6727 (home).

From Sherri Cousins:

The 2009-2010 Queen of Peace Saints sports banquet is coming up in April and we'd like to get a committee formed to help in organizing it. The banquet will be on April 23rd so get it on your calendars. This banquet is for Queen of Peace Academy Saints sports teams, not the YMCA teams. If you are interested in helping with the planning, please email Sherri Cousins at lilysmom2@cox.net. We will not have "sit down meetings"... we can do all the planning via email and phone so it will not take up too much of your time.  Thanks so much and.... GO SAINTS!
