RE:       Weekly Update

What a great beginning!  The gathering of parents, students and faculty as the Queen of Peace Catholic Academy faith community was truly a beautiful, joy-filled picture.  God has continued to bless us in so many ways.  How magnificently this was played out on our first day!

Thursday, August 13th was another of the many beginnings we have in our lives – from the first word to the first step to the very first day of school and on and on and on.  We are so fortunate to live each day knowing that those firsts will be ours – those new beginnings.  How often we may say or do something which hurts another or make a decision which is totally wrong.  But, in our minds and hearts we know that a new beginning is not far away if we are only willing to take the step to make it happen.

Certainly, we owe our “newness” to the Creator of all.  Forming and shaping us as God’s own, we are given all we need that having made a mistake, we can start over.  Isn’t God grand to allow us to do this?  To expect us to do this?  Our God is so awesome and filled with so much love for us.  God is bigger than we can ever imagine and filled with surprises.

Join us this year as we praise and thank God for leading us to Queen of Peace Catholic Academy.  Together we learn and grow and come to know one another and our God in ways which are unimaginable!

QPA K-5 Sports Program  - Fall Soccer Registration Deadline is Soon!

Soccer registration has been going on all summer and now it is time to close registration. The DEADLINE to get your registration form in is AUGUST 18TH, since the coaches will be meeting that evening to split the teams. Practices will start the week of August 31, with the games starting the week of September 14th. The season will end around October 31st.

The game times will be at 5:30 or 6:30 and games will be played at the YMCA fields, mostly the SW fields.

K/1 will play their games on Wed. (practice may be Mondays @ 5:30),

2/3 will play their games on Thursday (practices may be Tuesdays  @ 5:30),

4/5 will play their games on Friday (practice may be Thursdays @ 4:00). There will NOT be a Kingdom of the Son jv soccer team in the fall, only varsity, so 4th and 5th graders will need to register to play YMCA soccer.

Sports Program Needs:

#1 We still need coaches:  one K/1 coach and one 2/3 coach, depending on the number of registered K/1 and 2/3 graders.

A coaches meeting will be held on August 18th at the SW YMCA, at Celebrations United Methodist Church, next to the SW YMCA fields, @ 6:00 pm. This is a mandatory meeting, unless you have coached with the YMCA before.  If you are interested in being a coach, or have questions, please email Sally Wasik, sjwasik@cox.net.  Coaches who work with the children need to have been fingerprinted (Diocese of St. Augustine, Administrators’ Manual 300.34), and are required to attend the Protecting God's Children class. Both the fingerprinting and the class need to occur before the season starts. Go to www.virtus.org to register. Classes will be offered in Gainesville, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, on 8/26, 9/1, 9/22, 9/26, 10/13 & 11/10 at 6:30.

#2 We are always looking for team sponsors so if you or your business would like to sponsor a team a team sponsorship is $300. Call Sally Wasik for more details.

From Suzy Bode

Look what’s coming this fall!

Queen of Peace Catholic Academy is very excited to be able to offer your child the opportunity to play a stringed instrument.  Learning to play a musical instrument brings life-long joy and a deeper understanding and appreciation of music.  It also teaches self-discipline and responsibility.

Group lessons in violin, viola and cello will be available for children using the Bode Method specifically written to teach younger children to read and play.  The lessons will be held at school after school once a week on Mondays and Fridays.  The lessons will last45 minutes.  The fee is $100 for 10 lessons.

It is suggested that you rent your first instrument.  If you are using an instrument that has been handed down to you or are buying one privately, please let us check it out for you first to make sure that it is a quality instrument and that it properly fits your child.  Rental instruments of the highest quality will be available upon request.

Teaching the lessons will be Ms. Suzanne Bode, founder of the Bode Method.  Ms. Bode has taught strings from grades pre-kindergarten through the university level for forty-one years. She is a graduate of the Crane Department of Music at the University of New York at Potsdam majoring in violin.  She is the founder of the Indian River Youth Symphony.  She  has played professionally with  many orchestras and chamber ensembles and as a soloist in New York and Florida.

For more information, please feel free to call Ms. Bode at 352-595-2070 or email her at violinlady1112@gmail.com.  Information will also be available at the school at the Open House on Tuesday, August 25th and Wednesday, August 26th.

See you in Church!
