RE: Weekly Update
About a week ago, a student in one of the Early Education grades was given a consequence for an inappropriate behavior. It was agreed upon with the child’s parents that pulling weeds in the Mary courtyard would be a perfect match for the infraction. Then, this past Monday, a Middle School mom responded to the plea in the Update for the much needed weeding. All morning, weeds were being pulled. Unable to just watch this, the young Early Ed student approached her with, “What did you do to have to pull weeds?”. How about that for perception and conclusion?
And herein lies another lesson for each of us. We look, we ponder, and we draw conclusions; sometimes it is all wrong. We think we have perceived correctly as we draw from our own experience; sometimes we are right. This is one of the areas the people of Jesus’ time found hard. They, like us, were quick to draw conclusions, quick to judge. Jesus encouraged them (and us) to listen, to be compassionate and understanding. He challenged them and us to take on the mind and heart of God, to use the gifts of our baptism which place us in the family of God. He told them and us that we are one, that we belong to a rich community.
Truly we are so blessed. Truly we have every reason to think only the best about one another. Truly we have all that we need to enrich the vibrant community of faith here at Queen of Peace. Thank you all, once again, for the joy and graced privilege of walking this journey toward a deeper relationship with God with you and your children.

Reminders and Other Things
From Nurse Bunde:
Parents are reminded to contact the school nurse (mabunde@qopacademy.org) to report a student illness. Please do not send your children to school sick. If a child has a fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea along with a cough, sneezing, body aches, etc. he/she most likely has a contagious condition. Until the student has been symptom-free (un-medicated) for 24 hours, he/she should not return to school.
If a child's medical file is delinquent, parents will be getting a formal letter very soon to request the information. Failure to comply is not acceptable and may result in the child missing school.
The consent forms for the Flu Mist Vaccine are due by Sept. 24th. Even if the student is not going to receive the vaccine, the forms must be returned indicating that the vaccine is being declined. The form can be downloaded from the Alachua County Health Department's website. It is a 2 page form.
The Hearing and Vision Screening will be done on December 2nd & 3rd.
From the Clothes Closet:
The Clothes Closet will be having another used uniform sale on September 27th before and after the 10:00 AM Mass in the hospitality area of the church. This is a great time to get some cooler weather clothes. This will be a CASH ONLY sale.
You can drop off your gently used uniforms in the school office between now and September 24th. Please do not send in stained uniforms, they will not be put out for the sale. Use the question, “Would I buy that?”.
